Kiran Kumari Digal, Jhili Dalabehera, Kuni Mandal, Shanti Madakami and Bhabani Toika stood first in respective women weight categories of the 20th Khurda District Weightlifting Championship, which was conducted at Utkal Karate School here today. Subhasmita Mohanty, Sadhi Soren, Santoshini Khara, Moti Jani and Debaki Khilo finished second.
In men’s category, Shakti Prasad Swain, Lakit Kumar Sahoo and Swarup Kumar Nayak secured first position in respective weight classes. A total of 20 women and 10 men participated in the day-long championship, which was graced by State Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo and city Mayor Anant Narayan Jena.
Khurda District Weightlifting Association president Chitta Ranjan Swain and secretary Janaki Ballav Mishra were present on the occasion. Khurda team for State championship, scheduled to be held at Berhampur from November 29, will be selected from the district championship.
